Wow. This was my FML. It was my first time giving blood. I'd tried once before but my hemoglobin was too low. So I made sure to eat lots of iron rich foods the weeks before and was fine this time. Everything went really well. But when I got settled at the table with the snacks where they make you wait for 15 minutes I started to feel a bit dizzy. I fainted then. I'd been in the middle of eating my cookie, so it wasn't that odd. The wonderful people there caught me and lowered me to the floor, and I was only out for about 20 seconds. When I woke I was just really confused, and all I could really coherently think was "I have a half chewed cookie in my mouth," and I couldn't figure out how to swallow. They gave me juice and ice and I went back to my dorm to lay down until class. I think it actually went really well, and I'm excited to give blood in the future. I'll just have a larger breakfast and stay laying down for longer.

He's missing the other half of the cookie
I wouldn't call it a nap...
Hope it was for a good cause
I'm pretty sure that donating blood is a good cause. Potentially saving someone's life is a very good thing to do in most people's opinions.
Better yet, they invited Dracula over for a visit.
Oh god! Hope you weren't hurt OP. In any case, it was good of you to donate blood.
Thank you! I was fine. The people there were phenomenal. I never felt like I was in danger of hurting myself.
Thank you for donating. Embarrassing about the fall? Sure. But keep in mind that blood is going to help someone who needs it. Now you know for next time that you're particularly sensitive to lost blood, and can request someone to help you to the recovery area. They'll be happy to do so after you explain you passed out afterwards last time. Don't let this scare you away from donating!
Wow. Thats exactly what they told me! I do hope to try donating again, especially because I seem to have been mostly fine the rest of the day.
I would talk to the nurse about it and take their advice on what you should do.
I'm not sure what to say here... Very blood Much faint Wow So cookie
Perhaps your iron was on the low side. I would suggest eating a good meal before donating.
if OP is female then iron should have been tested before donation. for females iron has to be 12.6 to safely donate without passing out
Where I worked for 7 years and have donated at for 11 years, all donors had their hemoglobin checked. I'm pretty sure it's an FDA requirement. Even if it's high enough to pass anyone could still pass out. I almost passed out once donating on an apheresis machine and I've donated over 5 gallons.
I always had to eat black strap molasses the day before donating (high in iron)
Its actually 12.5 for us. Mine was 12.8.
Why did they put a half eaten cookie in your mouth?
Not sure if you're a troll, dumb, or don't know that you have to eat and drink right after donating blood so you don't pass out.

I totally pictured you walking with a cookie in your mouth, minding your business and suddenly fainting.
