Really, it sounds like she saw you weren't injured, and judging by no mention of injuries, you weren't injured in reality, either. The dog could very well be old or fragile, and regardless of health, if a dog is actually falling down stairs, I'd be concerned too. Like other people have said, a dog can't take care of itself very well, but unless you have a serious injury, you're as good as your mom would be in easing the pain of any bumps or bruises.
