Today, I felt flexible in my yoga class. I put my legs in the butterfly position and tried to press them down. Both my hips popped very painfully and I screamed in the middle of a quiet room. FML

Yoga is all about yielding. It's goes against the very principle of yoga to force your body into a position it's not ready for.

Just relax, don't push yourself and one day you can make it through all the poses

The first rule of yoga is to not do anything that is painful that your body isn't ready for.

And how flexible you feel, now?

Feeling flexible and actually being flexible are two completely different things my dear...

Never try to force something in yoga. If you can't do the position, start with a more relaxed or smaller version of the pose.

it is understandable that you screamed cuz it hurt. the popping is probably a good thing tho cuz it releases the joints from the stress they were under. you should try to do yoga a little more often and not just in class.

At least it's better than if you had screamed in pleasure.

Even in a quiet room full of people doing yoga?

I used to be a dancer and was very flexible, but I got that way from patience and careful stretching. Do not ever press down hard on anything. A very little push to help the stretch is okay but don't force anything because you can severely injure yourself. Yoga is supposed to be about gentle stretching. Don't over do it.

You better have your chiropractor on speed dial if you are going to be trying moves like that; at least until you limber up. Feel better OP!
