Today, I finally bought a car, after saving up for a year. My dealer had told me it was a good buy, so I snapped it up then and there. On the way home, the rear axle practically fell out of the car due to frame rot. My dealer wants to buy the car back at half the price. FML

"My dealer told me it was a good buy." No shit! What was he/she supposed to say? "No, this is a piece of crap just waiting to come apart the moment you take it off the lot. Now give me your money." Bad call on your part.

You didn't ask for the carfax did you? Tsk tsk :/

Don't they have carfax or something along those lines in London? Ydi for not bringing someone who could have helped you take a look at the car though, because I'm betting that anyone with basic car purchasing knowledge would know to look at the under carriage and check for things like that.

Kick his ass, then torch the dealership. EVERYBODY hates used car salesmen, the jury will find you innocent.

Always have a mechanic check it over before you buy a used vehicle - it might cost you to get it done but it's worth it . I once had a guy try to sell me a car that was written off and repaired when it was supposed to have been sent to the scrap yard .

Maybe. Just maybe. It's time to find another dealer.

I don't know about the Uk but in the united states we have something called the lemon law!

Never said a car dealer. I just assumed he meant drug dealer. They're usually very reputable.

This is why you should always have an independent mechanic check the car out before you buy it.... The dealer scammed you and you let him.

he legally has to take it back within the first like week per the lemon law. and give u full price

Actually, I just read up on the Lemon Laws yesterday since I'd just bought a new car. It's a popular misconception that they have to take it back if something is wrong within a week (or sometimes three days, depending on who is telling this tall tale) and give a full refund. The law states that OP has to inform the service technicians of the manufacturer, who have 10 business days to get to it. If they don't, then OP can pursue legal recourse.
