Excuse me, but isn't it OP's house? He can install cameras wherever he likes. Its not that uncommon to have cameras in the house just to keep an eye on things. If the son was minding his own business in his room like a respectful person would do then this situation never would have come up. Its not OP's fault. I agree that OP probably should have let his family know about them but even if he didn't, that sort of behaviour should not be going on in Common Space ie the family couch. In his own room, go ahead but not in common space. The point is not that OP invaded his family's private lives (which he didn't btw. He merely reinforced house security). The point is that the son was caught on camera jerking off on the couch where everyone sits. Good luck to OP though. You now have a nice and awkward discussion coming up.

I didn't even know people went that far to install cameras inside the houses. I always assumed they were more of an out door kinda thing.
