Today, I found a wounded turkey in our backyard. I brought it inside, put it in a cage, and tended to its wounds. I then left. When I got back home, I smelled the wonderful aroma of my mother's cooking. She had prepared a turkey, the one I'd rescued. FML

What kind of mom would just discover a turkey in a cage in her home and not think to ask anyone about it before slaughtering it for dinner? I don't understand

Slaughtered, plucked and cooked? Your mom is a hell of a woman! However, I'm Sorry about your pet. My granddad cooked my father's rabbit once in the same manner. ):

Hey now, why should I feel worse for a turkey being slaughtered for thanksgiving than I should a pig? Especially since Ham is already a Christmas tradition in many places so you are now calling on the poor pig to suffer doubly through the Holidays.

Yes I was just saying what 18 said :p I have a sense of humor which is why I found your comment hilarious even though you didn't intend it to be

Not that I would do that but why would you have a turkey at home if it's not to eat it? You should've wrote a note or told someone but I understand how you feel. I wouldn't be able to eat it if I were you. Tell yourself that it was in pain and it finally stopped suffering.

Actually sometimes people raise them to eat. But in NJ you aren't allowed to trap or kill wild turkeys to eat.

Well maybe it was beyond savings, died whilst you were out and she didn't want it to go to waste. I'm veggie and even I say that's fair enough. If it had made a full recovery though...well, she's a bit crazy. Generally speaking, I think people usually check with others before gutting and eating whatever animal they find in the house. Good job you didn't leave a new puppy or something.

Uhhhh what?! I hope that turkey didn't have any diseases ):

People hunt wild turkey all the time, just like deer.

Once u cook it well, I think ur safe from catching any disease

These damn city folk don't know nothing about huntin *sigh* lol

But if it has open wounds, that's actually rotted meat, which is bad for you.

Turkey is great anytime! Also, your picture made my heart drop to my stomach.

It's safe to say your mom is stupid and inconsiderate

It's turkeys final destination. Death is designed. Sorry OP

Same here, I only eat turkey once a year and that's on Thanksgiving. It kinda makes that meal extra special for me. (:
