Today, I found out my mother cleans the dishes with bathroom cleaning chemicals. She doesn't see anything wrong with this. FML

Bathroom cleansers are all water soluble and will rinse clean off dishes with no harmful side effects to your health or the taste of foods. The only potential problem I can think of is destroying non-stick coatings. OP, stop trusting your fallible instincts and actually learn about cleansers.

You should talk to your mom about that, lots of those chemicals are bleach-based, and therefore are quite toxic.

You have to rinse very well!! The stuff you put in your dishwasher has bleach & other chemicals! What's the diff.?

Um the QUANTITY of those chemicals? Bathroom cleaners aren't meant to be EVER digested so the makers don't care about how poisonous the chemicals are if someone DOES ingest them. However, they still put poison warnings on the labels and tell you to call poison control if ingested. Dishwashing detergent however have to meet a certain standard because it could be digested. The same with toothpaste. You can make a comparison with bug spray. The OFF sprays that come in areosal cans are meant to kill bugs directly. The body lotions are meant for human skin, and won't kill bugs but just keep them away. They're VERY different.
