Well, I am OP, and I am indeed 23...I met my husband when I was 18....and his ex was 17. She "lied" to him about her age. I am amazed I have bought it for so long. Yup, he is certainly a soon-to-be ex. Right after he loses his jewels. (kidding...maybe, lol) My soon-to-be-ex just turned 36.

The amount of ignorance of people on this site sickens me. 1. A pedophile is someone who is sexually attracted/has sex with children who are not sexually mature. A 16 year old is sexually mature. However, if the age of consent in the state where this occurred is over 18, OP's husband is a statutory rapist and a sex offender, but not a pedophile. 2. The age of consent in most states is 16. It varies from state to state, with 18 being the highest and 14 being the lowest. There are also exceptions to the rule - in NJ, if a person is between 13 and 16, they can consent to sex with someone no more than 4 years older than them. So, it's legal for a 14-year-old to have sex with an 18-year-old, but not with a 19-year-old. 3. In states where the age of consent is under 18, they DO NOT need the parent's permission. If the age of CONSENT is 16 years old, that legally means that a 16 year old can CONSENT to sex. They don't need their parents to consent to it for them. 4. Being a minor or a legal adult has nothing to do with being able to consent to sex. In most states, a minor over a certain age can consent to sex. 5. But, in Oregon, where OP is from, the age of consent is 18. Therefore, this was statutory rape, and if reported, her husband will be considered a sex offender. However, in most states, this wouldn't be the case, because in most states a 16-year-old can legally consent to sex. Don't believe me? Look it all up.

actually in most states while the age of consent is typically 16, there's usually an age limit. For example I am from Texas and the age of consent is 16 BUT it is illegal for a 36 year old to have sex with someone under the age of 18. a 16 year old can only date someone who is up to 3 years older. that's in Texas at least.
