InfestedCarOwner tells us more.
Hey Guys, OP here! I'm amazed this got posted, haha. As for my rat situation - Thank you for all the suggestions. I'll definitely try and trap them in the sticky traps. For anyone telling me to clean my car, I work in pizza delivery and my cars actually very clean. I have to clean it on a regular basis, But that doesn't mean it won't smell like food all the time. A little extra backstory, Our neighbors had a rat infestation, too. We're assuming that whichever rats survived decided to make our trash cans their home, and since my car is right next to the trash cans, They got in. Also, For the people saying to use cats - A family member suggested we use our kittens to get them out. Which I'm not going to do.

If you'd bother to read my replies, You'd find its not dirty and I work in the food company, thus meaning my car smells like food. Along with this, I'm positive they're in the car for shelter due to the cold weather.
hey it happens. mice are notorious for seeking shelter from warmth.
Excuse me? I do a good job at cleaning my car, But since I have to work easily over ten hours around the holidays I can't spray it down every time I come home at midnight. I also park nearby garbage cans since our driveway isn't very large and we have three cars. We've already determined that the Rats came into my car from the cold weather. Don't tell me I need to do a better job cleaning my car. Say I deserve it all you want, But don't tell me I need to do a better job at cleaning it.
Way to be such an insufferable ****
@corky1992, don't be such a closed minded twit. Have you ever worked a day that you felt like doing nothing when you got home? Have you ever worked in the food industry and washed your uniform to find it still smells of food although it's clean? Welcome to the real world. Things like that ACTUALLY happen. The same can be said for a vehicle that constantly has aromatic food in it. Plus it doesn't matter how clean it is, if it's shelter from the cold, animals will seek it out. Get the corn cob out of your bum!
my mom bought a car that this happened to and the smell of dead rats filled the car whenever she turned on the heat or air con. we found one in the trunk after pulling up the inside but the smell never went away despite searching everywhere from bumper to bumper. I was so thankful when the car died and they chose to junk it since repair costs were higher than it was worth
Take it through a car wash, see how long they'll last then..
DONT USE POISON TRAPS. They'll eat it and crawl off to some dark corner to die where you'll never find them. And then they will rot.
Also, as a word of caution, if you have kittens, please be VERY careful with the rat poison. I, personally, would either live-trap (if possible), and relocate, or contact a company that specializes in rodent extermination and see what they recommend. I don't like the idea of poison at all, but I'm far more comfortable with its use if there aren't innocent critters around, and, more importantly, it's your property/car, so it's ultimately your choice. Best of luck either way!
Just to clear this up for you, I have two rather safe rat traps outside of our fence around the garbage can where the infestation started out. Away from the kittens that are indoors, As we've already had problems with them sneaking out. I'd much rather be able to humanely catch them but that isn't a option as we don't have the money to pay for DIY traps and such. I'll be getting snap traps tomorrow for the car. Thank you for the concern and such, though!
the old school snap traps are best in my opinion... put a bag or something under it to catch the blood .. that way they aren't rotting in your car due to poison ( wouldn't want any of that flying in someone's pizza lol) or glue traps ... I have found just a leg or tail of a mouse on the glue traps they will chew off their limbs to get free then you have blood and still a rat with only 3 legs eww
Please DONT use glue traps it can harm other animals that you don't mean to Rats are very easy to catch and if they are in your car chances are their isn't many I have pet rats(two from the wild I found in my garage last winter) never been bit Live/humane traps, not only because it's decent but also incase animals you don't want hurt/trapped get caught in one Not to mention you can home make live traps Pm me if you'd like help
We had rats at my house once, my car took care of them though. Unfortunately he decided to leave their carcasses in my bed for me to wake up to.
My sister had rabbits eat all her wires in her brand new car. It happens a lot here in Arizona.. a lot roofrats will do it too.
Im not sure if this means you need to clean your car more often or you need to pay it off quicker
Please read my responses. I've determined the rats came into my car from the food smell since I work in pizza delivery, And it's cold out. Since I work in food delivery, I actually keep my car very clean since I'm in it so often.
