Today, I gave a beautiful book of baby names to a friend of mine who's been trying to get pregnant for a while. She just burst into tears when she saw it. Just before meeting me, she'd found out she was sterile. FML

Today, I helped a lady give birth on the train. She was so happy she asked if she could name the baby after me, but as I told her my name she visibly turned her nose up at it, turned to her husband, and suggested naming it after his grandfather instead. FML

Today, my child-hating friend who vowed never to have any no matter what, announced that she's pregnant. I've had three IVF cycles, spent $90k in fertility treatments, and still can't conceive. FML

Today, a pregnant friend who is due in 2 weeks posted a picture of a baby on Facebook. I commented congratulations. She's still pregnant. It was a picture of her baby who died 3 years ago. FML

Today, I was selling personalised stockings at work. When handing a customer's order over to her, which had no name on, I joked, "Oooh this is a bit mysterious". She replied, "Actually, it's in memory of the baby I miscarried earlier this year." FML

What's in a name?

Today, I introduced my coworker to my friend's boyfriend. When I mentioned his name, she started crying. Apparently he has the same first name as her twin brother, who died shortly after birth, so that name has become a bit of a sore spot for her. I didn't even know she had a twin. FML

Today, my husband and I told my parents that I finally managed to conceive. My mom burst into tears of joy and said how great it was that she's finally going to be a "real" grandma, all within earshot of our adopted and now-devastated daughter. FML

Uh, maybe it's just me, but maybe you should have waited until AFTER she's pregnant until you get her that kind of gift. Your heart was in the right place, I dunno. I just wouldn't get that sort of thing until there's a baby to be named. You didn't deserve it, but your life is not ******. Hers is. I didn't vote either way.

Wow, all of you who called the OP's friend an emotional wreck, go to hell! She had been wanting a child of her own, and she had just found out she was sterile! Of course she is going to ******* cry her eyes out. And everyone who is like "go adopt then," adoption isn't for everyone. First of all, it could take years to get approved to adopt. Second of all, some people can't handle the thought of taking care of someone else's child. There is no way you deserved this, you had very good intentions, and if she wouldn't have found out she was sterile, she would have loved it. FYL, and FYFL(**** your friends life). Sounds like she could really use you right now.
