Today, I got a job. My parents have decided it's now a better idea to take money from my paycheck instead of grounding me. FML

unseeable tells us more.

To clear up some questions I wanna start by saying I'm 17 and currently training to be a manager at mcdonalds. I work 40 hours a week and go to high school as a senior. I don't have much time for friends so they figured grounding me wasn't exactly the best punishment. They decided to start charging me for bad grades or not being able to do some chores or simple stuff like that, nothing too major. I thought that it seemed a little unjust for taking my hard worked money from me because of course it only happens to me in my family because I work the most and everyone else has more time for being grounded.

40hrs and school, of course your study time is going to be effected. must suck going to class, then work, and be expected to do chores. only plus side is you will be prepared for life when you get your own place. keep you head up.

Well they do pay for school and they got you the toys you wanted as a kid... It sucks but is true

That's the responsibility of being a parent. Period. now if he was over the age of 18 AND out of high school and not going to college? Sure, I'd be all for them asking him for rent money or at the very least helping to buy food. But while he's still in school? no way.

It may be true, but it doesn't make it right. Besides, it's not like kids ask to be brought into this world; their parents aren't doing them some big favor by producing them. Once two people have a child, it's their responsibility for his/her upbringing, not the child's. Enough with this ludicrous idea that parents should get respect from their kids as a fringe benefit for conceiving them; respect is earned, not entitled.

Boo ******* whooooo. I have to pay my parents 500 follars a month. And I'll be better off on my own because I've learned to pay monthly bills. I'm so glad I wasn't raised to be a little bitch like most of my peers.

Few things. I doubt his parents are literally just taking the money from his check, but fining him so to speak. All of you guys spouting off labor laws... It's different in every state, so your comments are irrelevant. As for grades... High school means nothing these days. It's basically a means for getting to college or the ability to get vocational training. Neither of which require a high school diploma. Unless you're going to try to go to a selective and exclusive school, a GED is all you need. And maybe the guy is working to buy a car, pay his insurance and phone bill, etc. I know that's what I did in high school.

Well at least they're letting you be a manager. I too am 17 and work at a McDonald's and despite my bosses bragging about my "excellent customer service" I see no hope of even a raise. But I agree it's very wrong for your parents to do something like that. Seeing how much you work, your grades are bound to suffer a little bit. But personally, I would put school first and tell them to hold off on the training
