Today, I got a job selling knives. I had training for 11 hours. At the end of the training session, the instructor promptly informed everyone that they had to pay $145 for a set of demo knives. I paid the $145. I went home and learned that it was a scam. I went back for a refund. They said no. FML

It's not OP's fault for falling for this. I was desperate to take a job out of high school, so painstakingly spent every minute of every day filling out online applications through SnagAJob, Indeed, Craigslist...then Vector marketing came up and sounded too good to be true. They called me for an interview. I was ecstatic to finally have someone call me after months of searching (especially considering what little experience I had at the time).. But I began researching the company online (you should always do that OP, regardless of whether you already got the job or not and whether you suspect they're a legit company or not, just to have knowledge of the company you'll be applying for) and read all the comments about it being a scam. I spoke with my parents about this, and turns out my aunt worked for them years ago. I asked her about it, she said it's not legally considered a scam but you put more into it than what you get out of it. So I called them and cancelled the interview. Now I can say I'm employed full-time at a $13/hour job, currently being considered for a second promotion. Now you know for next time OP to always do your research, you should never have to pay in order to get a job. It's the same across the board for everything...I.E. sweepstakes. I see this is an old post, hopefully by now you've gotten a good job. :)

That sounds like the vector cutco scam. I went to the first training session, but it was sketchy... Anyplace that makes you do your training hours for free is kinda sketchy. My cousin worked there for a while and one day they just moved without paying her the money she made. Thankfully I talked to her before I made my decision!
