That does suck. However, you really have no business showing up out of the blue at your 21 year old daughter's, especially on her birthday. I'm 20, and if my parents did that to me, I'd be furious. Surprise visits to someone of this age is just unacceptable. Your daughter should be the one posting since your inconsideration inconvenienced her when she made the more acceptable choice of surprising you.
Exactly!
Train takes about 10 hours compared to like a 45 minute flight! Tends to be cheaper too.
This is the least FML FML I've ever seen. Your daughter loves you enough to FLY TO ANOTHER COUNTRY ON HER 21st BIRTHDAY JUST TO SEE YOU. If I was in your position it'd put a smile on my face I couldn't wipe off. Sure you missed her this time but you'll catch her again soon, and you'll have a great story to tell for the rest of her life.
Still another country. :)
That's sweet and tragic, not a FYL. It's ironic that it takes misfortune to illustrate how lucky you are.
Hmm? Your daughter doesn't quite understand how it works then. You get to travel to visit her on her BD, not the other way around. Wopz.

And she spent the same and didn't get to see you. Only it's worse for her because she just wasted her 21st birthday. Oh, I just said 1st. Yehey!
I seen like 20 FMLs like this. You would think people would learn. Oh well FYL
