speaknoevil1 tells us more.
Hey guys! OP here. So let me explain what happened a little more. My friend and I are studying the same thing and the job is related to our field. I told her that I was applying there because I thought she would do the same thing if she would've found out about the opportunity. She only likes to take initiative when she thinks I'm going to be doing something that furthers my career and takes it like a competition. Anyway, she applied almost immediately after i told her and got an interview on the same day as I did. The mix up was due to a new intern mixing up our resumes since we came in at about the same time and we have similar backgrounds. The manager called and said he would handle it if I wanted to and I was about to say yes (because I was agitated on how unfair it was) and something stopped me. I didn't want to lose a friend over a job and she is quite grudgeful so I don't need that in my life. As fate would have it, I was offered an even better paid internship in Europe working along really great people and I couldn't be happier. Wow this is long but, anyway, thanks for everyone's advice!

Yikes, are you sure you want to work for a company that makes clumsy moves like that? But if you do want the job, your friend probably equally doesn't want to take a job away from you, especially if you were the one they really chose, you don't need to feel bad for taking it.
You should still take it OP. If you have a good friend, they will understand. But you are really in a tough spot. FYL
Sit down with your friend first hopefully, she will come to an understanding.
Maybe ask the boss if the is another job one of you can go to or recommend
Yikes. That sucks, however you should take the job. There is no guarantee your friend was even the second option, and they will probably let her go anyways and give the job to the runner up. So take it and maybe help her find a new job to ease any guilty feelings.
how bad do you need a job? that's is the real question
I wouldn't want to work for a company that can't keep paperwork straight for something this important, and then puts you in a place to clean up their mess for them. They hired your friend, it's their responsibility to fix it. This really isn't a great sign.
You should probably take the job, OP. But truth be told, if I were your friend I'd probably flip out. Finding a good job is too difficult.

It sucks, but you deserve that position
Ouch.. Maybe talk to your friend about it first? If they have another position lined up maybe you could keep it. Either way, good luck OP!
