People who have warrants are sometimes allotted a certain amount of time to turn themselves in. Given that the OP said that this is his newest place of residence, I'm going to guess that a work release program has nothing to do with this situation. The girlfriend was probably dropping him off so that he could turn himself in.
At least you know where he will be at night? Can't sneak up on you and you new boyfriend now can he?
My boyfriend's in jail so I can sympathize. Give him lots of phone calls and letters, it's really dull in there.
