Today, I had a job interview where I was asked, "Who is your best friend?" I replied truthfully, "My cat", only to then be asked what my cat would describe as my best qualities, which didn't go far beyond, "Remembering to feed him". They weren't impressed. FML

But most importantly, your cat is impressed.

Maybe start finding a job at a pet shop?

well if they noticed Honesty is your best quality.

The reason why they weren't impressed was because they expected this answer - cat would say: mew mew mew...

At the very least they should have commended you on your honesty. lol sorry about being lonely though.

OP didn't say he/she is lonely or doesn't have any friends at all except for the cat. "Best friend" doesn't mean "only friend". Furthermore, some people are perfectly happy being on their own, it's their choice - nothing to be sorry about

Why would you say your cat? That's just stupid. I wouldn't have been impressed either.

You'll find the right job for you with people who understand your fondness for felines. :)

You should have rehearsed better. "My cat" is really never an acceptable answer.

Answering that your cat was your BFF was a pretty good answer bc they'd definitely remember you after the interview, but you could have done a LOT with that. You should have killed it rather than be weird about it

"Loyalty, I don't pet other cats. Dedication, I feed him regularly. Charitable, I provide the food. Patience, I put up with his shenanigans." You could have taken that interview to a whole new unexpected place and surprised the interviewer.

Literally turn it into a joke. Chuckle at yourself, and then say, "If my cat could talk, he'd probably admire my loyalty and [other positive traits.]" Interviewer will chuckle out of politeness, even if he thinks you're a right tosser, and move on. Answer the other questions well and you could get a callback, no problem. Reacting under pressure is something they look for as well.

I agree with #43 - you could have turned it to your advantage by listing your qualities as they would relate to your cat and pet ownership in general. Responsibility is one. Or you could have said, "my cat doesn't care about my qualities but I'm sure my human friends would say... " It proves you aren't some anti-social weirdo with no people skills, and that you can think quickly and respond appropriately. Something to bear in mind for next time.
