Today, I had to leave my ACT prep class ten minutes in to pick up my drunken father from his best friend's baby shower. I picked him up along with a bill for the damage. FML

Maybes things are different here, but why was your dad at a baby shower?

It was his best friend's baby shower. On top of that, males aren't "unallowed" at baby showers.

Someone's got to inform these middle aged men that baby showers are not about showering with booze. You have merit to pull out of your ACT prep in order to help your dad pulling his own acts together.

This might sound really stupid, but what's an ACT test? I'm from Scotland and we don't have those here :L.

I only entered the comments section to find this out, I'm glad somebody asked... So, can anybody tell us what is this ACT thing?

It's a standardized test, like the SAT :)

I looked it up to be sure, I'd never heard of it before. It's basically a prep for college/university taken by high school students.

Is it an entrance exam that you do after you apply for college or university? Or is it just an advanced test that you do in school (like Highers and Advanced Highers in the UK)?

The SAT/ACT is a standardized test high schoolers (usually juniors and seniors) take before or during their college application process. Colleges require the SAT to see how people across school districts compare objectively to one another. The ACT is an alternative to that that's growing in popularity. Unlike the SAT, the questions are supposed to be much more straightforward, but there are also a lot more in each section. I think there's also a science section. Around here, people usually take the SAT.

Colleges on both coast of the USA look for the sat and the middle of the country looks for the ACT. Both are test just to prove how you will do in college. Pretty much the same thing except the ACT is less stressful.
