It wasn't a science degree... Just called a Bachelors of Science. I have food cooking experience as well as customer service experience but thanks for your input. Bye.

Yeah being over-qualified is a thing. Sadly lots of people get stuck with either being told "you aren't qualified enough" "you are over qualified." Can't win in today's job market. Only thing you can do is keep applying places. It'll happen eventually.

Well I guess chipotle is missing out! Aim higher OP- your degree is a huge achievement !!

Unfortunately you're not the only one. Read a story about a former physics prof denied a Mc Donald's job for being overqualified. It sucks but keep your head up! I'm sure you'll find something soon!

I move around often because of both a military family and being juggled around by different parents. Even though I've graduated and I have my BS now, when I apply to a new place, I don't show them everything. Only give what they want to see, then let your interview and people skills take care of the rest.

Unfortunately, making a burrito is an art, not a science.

I'm gonna say YDI for getting an unemployable degree to begin with. You should have been applying for jobs within your degree not part time at Chipotle. (Assuming you weren't applying) On the other hand, I know the job market is shit, so your life also sucks. But at least you can look at it positively and say "hey I am so qualified they decided not to employ me." It doesn't help your financial situation, but it gives you a more positive outlook. Good luck to you!

Who said their degree is unemployable? A job is a job, and these days you need to apply for and take what you can to survive in the working world. Don't be so ignorant

Also, for a lot of people university is about higher education and advancing human culture and knowledge, not just career prep. If a person wants to get a degree but not use it for work, that's their choice. It does show they are likely up for a challenge and quite possibly self motivated with good work ethic too.

I do have a job in my degree. I want an extra part time job to build savings. I don't see why that's a problem. I've worked in food service before so I know what I'm doing. Maybe I like making burritos.

Spoken like an educated person. Most people don't get the irony of being rejected by a fast food place. Restaurant work can be back breaking and you'd probably get bored the first day. Try dog walking????

Hey OP, I worked at chipotle for two years. It's too bad you didn't get the job, you get a free meal which includes a bowl, burrito, tacos, etc. whichever you want, and you can get extra meat and chips and guac and a drink every time you worked a certain amount of hours. I ate chipotle every single day for two years. Best two years of my life.

Because a science degree has everything to do with working at a restaurant.

overqualified... i have a masters and cant get a job in my field and everything else im "overqualified" for. i agree it sucks!

I feel ya OP, I have a masters in engineering and apparently I'm overqualified for a lot of jobs, yet under qualified for those in my field (because of lack of experience...which I can't seem to get.) I feel like time is everything, though, I hope things eventually work out for you :)

I think that this is a sign that there is something better out there for you, OP. I know it might be hard, but you will eventually find a job suited for your qualifications where your skills and knowledge will be used and challenged in a positive way. Also, congratulations on your degree! I wish you nothing but the best for the future, just hang in there

In fairness, depending where you live, a bachelors of science is pretty useless. My partner has a BS in environmental science which is an expanding field since so many companies are moving to more Eco-friendly ideologies. However, we live in an area where those companies don't exist. So he's BS is pretty useless unless he gets a masters in something like education or gets a MS.

Bachelors of Science does not literally mean a science field. My degree is a Bachelors of Science in Accounting. As for your friend, that does suck. His options are basically move to a new city or find a new career path. I personally knew that I was going to have to make that choice when I got my degree and decided to move out of state for college so I would have some work experience (worked full time through college) as well as the history of living in the area that savvy employers want to see.
