Today, I learned that my mom's laptop was originally my Christmas gift. She opened it and decided she liked it so much she should have it. I got hot rollers. FML

Your mom did you a favor: With the laptop, you'd have devolved into a house-bound geek who might have a Facebook-centric social life. She was obviously referring to last Christmas but she only found this out recently. And that second paragraph was just plain stupid and over-generalized on multiple levels.

Cool. I won a prize and it's not yet 8AM on a Saturday! I racked up a "Dumbest Comment Ever" award before anyone else is even awake! This is going to be a productive day. How do you know it was "obviously referring" to a specific Christmas? You'd think the OP would do some inquiring if she was expecting a laptop for Xmas, but her mom got one instead and she ended up with a booby prize. Also, people come to expect gifts from certain people to be in a consistent price range. If the OP ordinarily got gifts worth several hundreds of dollars from her mom, but got one worth

My friend's mom did the same thing, but with a new car - even though he was the only reason they were able to get it in the first place (their recently deceased family member's will gave it to him specifically). FYL, OP. That's all I can say.
