I feel your pain one time I lost a toothpick in the carpet and found it when it lodged itself halfway into my heel. Hope your toe is ok

Keep a Neodymium magnet on a string nearby. They are very powerful, and I once used on to get a very tiny (and very important) screw out of my carpet.

Yup, when working with needles and pins, having a good magnet wand or on a string is pretty much a safety 101.
