Today, I'm in the hospital and it's been 44 hours since I've eaten anything. My doctors won't let me eat and my parents are sitting across the room, eating. FML

My dad is in the hospital to and can't eat and me and my brother visit him everyday at supper time while eating our supper so it can't be that bad

that is so rude, you know maybe your dad just doesnt want to say something to you about it, but youre probably making him horribly hungry while he has to watch you eat food and smells it, but has a stupid needle stuck in his arm. How can you do that to your own dad?

Same happened to me OP but my parents snook off to McDonalds then told me all about it ... Fatties!! Hope you get something to eat soon. Trust me it will be the nicest meal you've ever had, no matter what it is

I have seen many patients in similar situations (we currently have a gentleman who is looking at four to six months on IV nutrition after a serious abdominal surgery) and it always pisses me off when I see family eating in front of them. I will often tell the visitors that it is against policy to bring their food back to the room.

Since we're all one upping each other here, my mouth once grew shut and I had to wait for a month without eating until the doctors were able to correctly give me my mouth back again.

Been there, too, 48 hours without food nor water, several times before finally having a surgery. Sometimes one of my relatives (generally mom) ate in front of me. That happens when someone nicelly keeps you company for a lot of hours, even at night. It's not really a big deal, they don't do it to piss you off but to not let you deal with your illness alone. Altough in your case they could also have taken shifts so one went outside to eat while the other stayed with you.

Definitely been there and had people eat in front of me. I felt so sick I didn't care. I was also really grateful for the company.

I had to go onto an elemental formula diet a week before Thanksgiving one year. I had to sit with my family as they ate dinner, knowing I'd taste nothing except formula, salt, and sugar for the next four months. Power to you, OP. You'll get through this.

Had the same thing happen to me but was not allowed to eat any solid foods for the whole week I was in the hospital all well your family members are eating in front of u cause they got hungary, shows how important u are to them when they can't even remember to not eat in front if u just too difficul
