Today, I made a fatal mistake that may cost my company thousands of dollars. This was right after I got a recognition for my outstanding work last week. FML

I guess it depends what kind of mistake you made. Should you have checked with a coworker to prevent it from occurring? Let's hope your achievements outweigh your mistake....

One of my mates once sent the source code for a client's project to one of their competitors. There went almost m$1 in contracts. He somehow kept his job.

That bites OP. However, since you noticed the mistake go talk to the most understanding Manager you know and he can talk to the others on your behalf. Owning up before being found out will reinforce your integrity in their minds. Good luck.

Its not as bad as you think. If it was fatal you wouldn't have posted on here, would you?

shit happens, hopefully you don't get fired for it and can make up for the losses in other ways since you are obviously good at what you do.

Brings to mind the old saying "A thousand 'attaboys' can be wiped out by one 'awshit'. Good luck rebuilding your attaboys, OP!

It's happened to me before. Don't worry OP. Life's full of lessons and experience.
