Today, I made a fatal mistake that may cost my company thousands of dollars. This was right after I got a recognition for my outstanding work last week. FML

I guess it depends what kind of mistake you made. Should you have checked with a coworker to prevent it from occurring? Let's hope your achievements outweigh your mistake....

Time to go to your company's biggest competitor and see if you can convince them you were hired as a saboteur.

It happens. Just try and learn from it.

yep, and depending on the size of the company, thousands of dollars may not be as big a deal as you think

Own up to it quickly. If not it'll be worse for you.

Start figuring out who you can blame this on.

Hey man everyone makes mistakes and while yours is a fairly large one...things will blow over

Ok, this sucks for you, but the degree of suck may vary depending on several factors: 1. Did it actually cost your company money? 2. How stupid was the mistake (ie: Should you have reasonably been able to avoid that mistake)? 3. How good was your work from last week, and does it outweigh your **** up? 4. Is your boss understanding?

One awshit wipes the slate clean! We all make mistakes, OP. Own it, take responsibility, learn from it, and don't let it happen again. You can't change the past, so you just have to move on.
