Today, I mentioned to my boyfriend that I want to start working out and get rid of my holiday weight. His response? "Okay, just don't join a gym. People will have to see you there." FML

Hopefully he meant guys might find you attractive and hit on you. :P

Your bf sounds like a jerk. If he can't like you for what you look like, you need to find someone who does. Dump his ass to the curb.

maybe he was just giving you a heads up. like if he feels insecure being stared at working out and he just wanted to tell you.

Just dump him and find someone that actually deserves you OP.

He might not have meant it like it sounded. I don't like weirdos watching me in the gym.

I was nervous when I started going to the gym last year, but I noticed that, the more I went, the less self-conscious I was. Not to mention that the only people that go to my gym are retired married couples in their 60s who exercise at the gym during their loads of free time. If her boyfriend isn't going to be supportive of her new positive habits, then he certainly doesn't deserve having a girlfriend with a newly-sculpted body that she'll have once she starts going regularly. If he said that out of jealousy, then that's his problem; she joined a gym, not a dating service. And for those who think he said it out of joking, imagine if the girlfriend said that to her overweight boyfriend. People would be tossing the B-word around more times than a medicine ball.

Dude's obviously an idiot...On to the next one!

OP here! I wasn't signed into my account at the time I submitted this, so that's why my username doesn't show up or anything. However, I've read the comments and some of you are so sweet. Thanks for your concern and support! My boyfriend is a true sweetheart and meant nothing of the comment like some of you think. I suffer from very harsh anxiety and my boyfriend is aware of that. Also, he's not too excited by the idea of me being surrounded at a gym by, as one of you put it, "big horny muscular men trying to flirt with me." Of course, I still took the comment the wrong way, due to the fact that I am an average insecure girl. So, I later asked my boyfriend what he meant by the comment, which he then assured me of his motif behind saying it. We are still happily together, and we are now working out together within the privacy of our own home :)

by 'holiday weight', do you mean 'every single day of the year weight'? i despise fat people... you have brought this on yourself with your poor diet and lack of exercise. go on now, it time to eat. cry into your food.
