That's not an assumption; it's a logical deduction. It would be an assumption to decide the OP wasn't adopted, and to interpret "biological mother" as "my mother's true nature, otherwise hidden for the entire time she raised me."

That's a real shame. I'll bet you're glad she let someone else raise you and you turned out better than she could have ever done.
