Similar thing happened to be once my contacts were dry so my grandpa gave me some eye drops. Turns out they were prescription eye drops and the label stated not to use with contact lens

It's happened to me as well. I had no idea they expired, mostly because they keep working even after many years. But hey you can get new ones and keep them for another 7-8 years!
