Today, I painfully watched my doctor burn a hole in my nail to drain the blood underneath. This is the prescribed treatment for the injury of hammering your thumb. FML

The pain sucks at first, but it'll be much better than the pain the swelling would have caused.

This is the appropriate treatment to prevent pressure building up from bleeding under the nail. Making a small hole allows the blood to drain and relieves the pressure. Trust me, I'm a doctor. Seriously. An MD

I had the same thing happen but I smashed my finger in a door. It got infected since I had a cut under my nail and after he burnt a hole in my nail he had to squeeze my finger like a pimple and holy hell it hurt like a bitch!!!! Worst experience I have ever had

wait, but nails melt >.> (i know that cause accidently melted part of my tub nail)... and last time I did something like that my mom removed my entire mail (ring finger)... it felt really weird

They did not recieve pain meds and were prolly laughed it for going to the doctor instead of just doing it at home for free.

I dropped a full can of spraypaint on my toe one time but couldn't get to the hospital, so I heated up the end of a paper clip with a lighter and pushed it through the nail. I gotta say, it hurt, but nothing feels better than all that pressure relieving, and after about 10 minutes it just feels a little sore, not like your toe is gonna explode.
