Today, I painfully watched my doctor burn a hole in my nail to drain the blood underneath. This is the prescribed treatment for the injury of hammering your thumb. FML

The pain sucks at first, but it'll be much better than the pain the swelling would have caused.

When at my work someone hammers on his thumb and it causes a swelling, we take the smallest drill, heat it in a flame and carefully drill a hole into the nail, until blood comes. You have to trust your coworkers very much for that :D

I dropped a door on my foot and had blood under my toenail. All you have to do is wait for the nail to grow. the blood dries and turns black but will go away on its own.

No, just no. I dont even think two of the "same" injury responds the same way.

your lucky if he didn't do that your nail will fall off, and it will be very painful

Eh the nail falling off wasnt as painful as them ripping it off, but i have a feeling the doc didnt do it right.

Lmao did that before, however the burning of the nail doesn't hurt to much if at all it is just the thought of it. Agreed though FYL.

If the pain is unbearable or hematoma too large, unfortunately draining (by drill) is da way to go Its as someone described it above, its the only way to release the pressure Dr inda hs!

Console yourself thinking about all the money you'll save with your hitchhiking thumb.

Ouch! I slammed my thumb in a car door. I didn't go get it treated. Ended up losing and it grew back, never the same again.

You lost your thumb and it grew back?!? O___o
