Today, I parked in a "Disabled" space. A woman and her kids comes yelling at me about how I don't look disabled and I was just being selfish. I roll my pants up to reveal two prosthetic legs. She then yells at me that I should have warned her before showing my legs since it could scare her kids. FML

A mother like that is enough to scare the kids.

Looks like she didn't have a leg to stand on.

Your reaction was literally the best thing you could've done in that situation. You weren't argumentative or abrasive, just informative. Good for you for being the bigger person. Also if her kids were scared by a pair of prosthetics, she really hasn't prepared them for the world. What an idiot woman.

You should really go around telling kids you are half robot - you'll be their hero!

Same thing happened to my mom's friend. A man came banging on her car roof and screaming for her parking in a handicap spot but then she pulled out the medallion and that shut him up. It really sucks when you get people like that and I'm sorry you went through that OP.

I've had this happen to me. Someone yelled at me that my kids didn't look handicapped, so why am I parking there. I said "Fortunately, they aren't, I am", at which point they yelled at me that I didn't look handicapped either. They threatened to call the police. I said "Please do. Then, when they arrive, I'll explain to them that you are harassing me for parking legally and I will file a formal complain. I'll wait right here while you call". He walked away. Sadly, he walked to his car and helped his extremely handicapped child out of the car. Had this person said "You look reasonably-abled, can I park here because my child needs xxxxx" I would have happily moved my car. I think he was just angry about the hand life dealt him. In the state of GA, the form for the Handicapped placard has a checkbox labeled "Is the requester visibly handicapped". This is used to educate law enforcement that our handicap may not be the most visible, such as being wheelchair bound.

This just goes to show: communication skills are always important.

I get the same crap bexause I don't "look disabled I might look ok on the outside but inside I'm a trainwreak, Sarcodosis of rhe lungs, CHF. DETERIATING DISK DISEASE, OSTOEAETHRITI,S DIABETIC AND HAVE EDMA IM MYLEGS AS WELL AS DVT. and I had one jerk went off on me for parkinging in the handicap spaces so I dold him that my disabilitiea were NOT for his enjoyment and to kiss my a$$

She was probably mad because you took the spot she wanted to steal even though she wasn't disabled

I hate it when people act like they're some kind of bastion of justice in order to protect their ego
