Today, I realized I've been sinking into a deep depression, ignoring all my friends, and don't know what to do with my life anymore. This is all because I gave up Facebook for lent. FML

woah wth? nice way to support a depressive person jerk.

YDI for two reasons. First: you rely too heavily on facebook for social interaction and second: you practice lent.

Agreed, mostly with the latter. Nothing wrong with having beliefs, I guess, but why would you practice lent? I don't get it. I don't think Jesus would want you to give up your commodities. You want to practice lent? Make a sacrifice and give up something important. "Herpderp I'm such a good christian I'ma give up facebook! That shows god i love him herpderp!" I don't agree with lent, but giving up Facebook or video games seems more insulting to the idea than not giving anything up at all.

12, the first part I agree the second your a moron

68 - Lent is about giving up something important to you. It's about making a sacrifice. The importance of that sacrifice may not be the same for everyone. Don't disrespect someone else's beliefs simply because you do not believe in the same thing.

I've practiced lent for many years... I sure hope I'm good at it....

I gave up giving up something! And that is very important to me!

68 I agree with freedom of speech but you are an idiot. the point of lent is self control and giving up something just like jesus sacrificed. it doesn't have to be as major as what Jesus did ( obviously )

202 - actually a lot of denominations of christianity practice lent, not just Catholics. Also, lent is about giving something up that is a big part of your life, most people give up something to do with food because it seems right.

162- I'm far from an idiot, you just disagree with my views and choose that as a response, possibly in hopes of offending me. Bravo on your first point. Secondly, as an agnostic raised Catholic, I was taught that lent was about giving up something important and show, through prayer, that you're grateful for what Jesus gave up for you. Now, does facebook seem important? If you're gonna give up something not important, it's not quite what it was expected to be, is it? Of course, OP does seem to have made facebook an important part of his/her(don't wanna check) life, but that doesn't make it less offensive to the idea, in my opinion. Seems like a joke to give up social networking for lent, at least to me, and if i were a Christian, I wouldn't want to laugh at my traditions. I remember when I was 13 and gave up video games for lent.. My very religious grandmother thought that was blasphemous(correct usage?). She freaked. Very amusing now, since I see her point. You can disagree with my opinion all you want, that's fine, but having an opinion that differs from yours does not make me an idiot. Calling me an idiot for this, however, might make you seem like an intolerant, idiotic bigot yourself. 202- Catholics are Christians.. They believe in Christ.. But if you wanna stick to the argument that they're not, which is fine since it's a very wide belief.. Then you should know that a few Christian denominations also practice lent: I'd love to give an example, but I'm drawing a blank.. I think methodists are one of them. I wonder how long till this FML is gone.

237-that's the longest comment ive ever seen on FML...congratulations:D

Ya I go to a Methodist church and were doing lent.

268 -- then you haven't seen some of my comments. |the kid|

202 Catholics are definitely Catholics but I wouldn't blame someone your age for not knowing that. Stop listening to your ignorant church.

444, you're right. Catholic does equal Catholic. What you don't seem to understand is that religion is not that simple to define. Christianity itself is split into three main branches (and many more from each of those). Those branches are Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, and Protestantism. 237, just for an FYI. You are correct in thinking that there are many non-Catholic religions that practice Lent. Methodists are one of the groups, as are Episcopalians, Lutherans, and Presbyterians.

There are so many varying views on Christianity because everyone interprets the texts differently. Seems funny that they all pray for the truth and get such varying answers; either god is trolling them or he doesn't exist.

Haha I'm surprised u even have friends to ignore :p
