Bigmack, Unless you are fully disabled you have to participate in 35 hours a week of employment training while on welfare (you can only get less than if your doctor says you are unable to participate in 35 hours per week, and then you have to participate in the maximum amount of hours your doctor says you can). After 3 years, you are ineligible for continuing welfare unless you have a child under 3 or are disabled. Unless you have been approved for social security, you can only use medicaid for a primary insurance for 3 months - and currently the shortest wait time for state insurance (out of all the states that offer it to needy individuals) is 12 months. For some pre-existing conditions in some states (the ones without mandatory individual coverage laws), state insurance is the only option available to use as a primary insurance. In other states, certain pre-existing conditions means a monthly insurance payment of $1,500 and a $5,000 deductible. Yet, if you make more than $250/month you are ineligible for any medicaid coverage - even if your monthly medication is $10,000/month. Every 6 months you need to be re-evaluated by a doctor to determine why you still need to be covered under medicaid, after 1 year, you need a thorough examination, and after two years, the government will send you to one of their doctors to make sure you aren't playing the system. You also need to be in the process of applying for Social security to stay on medicaid for longer than 6 months Yeah its easy to call people who need assistance lazy. you just have to ignore all the facts about the matter to do so. What is lazy is the people who would rather whine about the disabled needing help, and harass them, then go out and protest why our government has set up health and employment in such a way that the disabled have to choose between trying to work part time or getting the medicine that they need to be able to feed themselves. Because disabled people can't work fulltime (if they could they wouldn't be disabled) and the way the laws are written a full time job is the only way they are going to be able to support their own medical bills
This is not an FML. Let's all moderate better people. :)
you all do realize that the economy started going down 2 years ago when the democrats took over the house and senate? and you all do realize that the president barely has any control over the country because everything he proposes has to go through the house and senate? so stop blaming bush.
agree with 57 & 58. You people realize that it is INEVITABLE that the economy come back under Obama? No matter who was elected, it would happen. In fact, we should be more concerned about what happens if Obama DOESNT fix it. This same thing happened before. Bush Sr. put plans into motion that would balance the economy, but it didn't come into effect until Clinton hit office, so people think it was all him. Get a freakin grip.
@28 It's always easier to get hired for a new job while your currently working. My mother has been in charge of hiring and firing for the past 6 years, and while you might not agree with it nearly all employers respect you more if you are currently working while applying for a job. Why not take that lower paying job you were talking about, then applying for another higher paying job. You might be struggling for a while but in the end working for a living is always a better alternative to sponging off the rest of society.
He earns 60% of an average week's pay. So his weekly pay was more then your bi-weekly pay. Not a big deal. Kinda funny that he still makes more. I'm sure it isn't his fault he lost his job anyways.

My sister makes more with unemployment than I make with an actual job....it's just stupid.
Sounds like somebody doesn't understand how unemployment works.
