Today, I received a message from front desk that my concerned father is trying to contact me. I call only to hear that my parents were freaking out that I wasn't answering my phone. They saw me 9 hours ago. They were going to call the police. I'm in college and also don't live with them anymore. FML

Call them at midnight and reassure them that you're fine. And again at 3am. And again at 5:30am.

My mother was the same way when I first moved out. She would call just about every 2 hours "just to check on me." If I didn't call her by 9 pm every night she would freak out. She did almost call the cops once. I had to have a long talk with her about letting me grow up and be responsible and that I would call her once to twice a day and that was it. Just talk to your parents.

My dad did something really similar last semester, too...started freaking out, because I hadn't checked my email that day and jumped to the conclusion that I was missing or something, and then said he'd contact campus security to check on me. I wasn't missing; I was just busy with classes.

My parents called the cops on me when I was 20 because I didn't call to let them know I arrived at school safely. The cops didn't even take a report. Here in the US, someone over the age of 18 has to be missing for 24 hours before they will take a missing persons report. They'll learn eventually. And the truth is, my cell battery was dead.

#31 you're 20, but still go to school? Really putting off facing the real world aren't you? :)

maybe they meant that they had arrived at their college safely? just saying...

School can be used to refer to college, you know, and it's perfectly reasonable for a 20 years old to attend college.

some parents just can't let go of their children!

Apparently they didn't teach you how to spell...

Hey, idiot. Try to yell at them and make them know you're okay forever, stop being OP. AND #33. Don't talk, OP is in college. Your so incoherent, illiterate to even form words.

damn this is definetly a fml. and for everyone that thinks it isnt try living with overprotective parents that will never let you grow up

it's not a fml if they care about you but demanding to know everything and freaking out? tad too smothering my parents just ask I tell em and they never call unless it's an emergency

My parents did the same thing to me up at college. It was a fml moment.

Wow that sucks Sadly, everyone who has had a similar experience is a girl. If there is a guy in there, then i might have missed his post but still majority is girls. This is one of the reason that contributes to the wage gap between men and women.

Calls from overly concerned parents contribute to the wage gap?

How the **** does that have to do with the ******* wage gap? Seriously? Why are yout trolling with such stupid crap?? >.

If you people don't know what i'm talking about or what i'm getting at then you should probably just ask politely or do some research. One of the reason for the wage gap is women not being more focused on being independent because their parents never let them or forced them to always depend on someone. So as a result women do not care if they earn more money, and do not try to negotiate a bigger pay because A. They always had others do these sort of things for them because they were never as independent, or B. They don't think they need all that money because they can just depend on someone else for it, like a husband or father.

It was op's father who was obsessed, not the mother.
