Today, I spoke with my boyfriend about where we want to live when I graduate. He says he doesn't know what he wants and his mother wouldn't approve of us living together. We've been together 3 years with the understanding we would live together once I graduated my Master's. FML

I know somebody whose been waiting for her bf of 11 years to propose, him saying he would 8 years ago, his excuse was his mom didn't approve. his mom has gotten to the point where she's pushing him to propose to her now because she's sick of waiting for him to get his shit together. he still hasn't proposed, she's still waiting, both in their 30s now. I'll let you decide what we know is going on

God my ex used to do that. We talked about living together for years. And then he randomly is like "I don't think my mum would approve" Uhhhh you're a grown adult dead.

I don't get it when people like OP's boyfriend let what their parents think control them when they are adults. My mother won't approve of me moving in with my girlfriend in a few months but guess what? She doesn't get a say. Sorry your boyfriend is like this OP and I hope his mother doesn't control other aspects of the relationship too.
