Today, I was uninvited to our usual family Thanksgiving, as well as the rest of the holidays with my extended family. Why? They found out who I voted for. I won't say who, but according to my aunt, I'm to blame for putting their son's healthcare at risk. WTF? FML

WTF is wrong with you people? You don't disown family over politics no matter what you're exposed to in your news bubble. Some things are supposed to transcend everyday concerns like national politics and family is one of them. Shame on the lot of you for putting party narratives and fear **** over real life human relationships.

I would agree with you if this were about politics. But this is about the basic human right to healthcare and existence, this is about equal rights for women and minority groups, this is about valuing our relationships with democratic leaders and not kowtowing to authoritarian dictators, this is about not pursuing an economic model that will dissolve basic healthcare protections like the ACA and medicare and what small retirement protections we have in social security, and about voting for an economic model that will pull the middle class into poverty while the wealth gap continues to grow exponentially and feed the oligarchy we already have. This is about not putting Project 2025 in power which proposes things such as ripping away the right to vote from anyone who isn't a white male who owns property, and forbids women from having the right to earn income or to file for divorce. This is about not voting in someone who is a known sex offender and putting other known sex offenders onto his cabinet, not to mention someone who has been documented in photos and videos socializing and partying with convicted child sex traffickers. We don't have a disagreement of politics. We have a disagreement of ethics on the most primitive level.

You are so deep in the bubble you're actually justifying banishing family members over the fear p*rn narrative. You. You personally. Not a political figure or a news person or even the family member in question. You're making that choice yourself. When, not if, your doom spiral fails to appears like all the other narratives pushed on you, I hope you have enough self awareness to avoid being taken in again and restore relationships with the people in your life you threw away over a failed campaign pitch.

I haven't personally cut anyone off for supporting Trump, unless they're doing so obnoxiously. But I do understand why people would. This is not politics as usual. He has demonstrated that he is an aspiring fascist dictator (yes I am using those terms accurately and deliberately), and incited a violent insurrection after he lost the last election. He shouldn't have been allowed to run again, and it takes profound ignorance to support him if you're not a literal Nazi. I called this, 20 years ago, when I noted and described our slide into anti-intellectualism, and the connection between that and authoritarianism. People largely don't seem to realize how serious this may be. There are a lot of variables, it's impossible to know exactly what's going to happen, but there have been plenty of very serious warning signs that we should not be ignoring.
