Today, I started my new job as a supervisor. I began by cleaning out my new office, including recycling large sheets of cardboard left over from the new calendars. When the 2nd shift came in, however, they got very upset and yelled at me. Apparently, I had thrown away my Muslim workers' prayer mats. FML

Your comment makes it sound like people should come to the job and just work and not read a book, eat, chat...etc. All these can be done during the break time which is probably when the muslim workers are performing their prayers. Nothing wrong with that.

wow that really sucks but it was an honest mistake imo. How would you have known? Good luck and look at it as an opportunity to make a new friend! Maybe buy him some new ones as an apology and go from there?

Mynxie i assume youve read the quran? Killing anyone is one of the most "haram" things you can do as a muslim. We dont kill non-believers. Nor do we kill for blasphemy or apostasy. There are a few verses about how god is angry at gays but no where does it say we should kill them. In fact the quran tells us to treat everyone justly as friends unless theyve destroyed our homes, families or otherwise. Even then we arent allowed to kill. We're only allowed to kill if for self defense or for holy war

I think you are very unsure of how Muslim prayers work. They do not adjust to times and are to pray five times a day according to scheduled times, everyday, 7 days a week. And if the work environment allows them to pray during work hours, then I don't see how it's a problem. I work in retail but the management are very understanding and allow our Muslims staff to pray if they need to. Educate yourself on such things before commenting.

Honestly I am a muslim and this could deffo happen to me....not entirely sure why they would be praying on cardboard and expect a new supervisor to know that the cardboard is in place of prayer mats. Sorry did it find it funny, hope they understood too!!

Yes, because devout Christian have never been violent or threatening the least to LGBT people in western society...

Wow... how did you not know what the mats were for? I mean they are pretty unmistakable...

Why were the mats in a supervisors office and not in the employee break room? How were you supposed to know what they were?

You should read the bible. It promises much worst treatments to sinners than Koran. But given the nature of your comment I really doubt you read anything much.

Why should the employer provide that for them? It should be on them to get a mat if they want it.

Because their asshole supervisor just threw them away

Shouldn't be the employers responsibility to provide that.
