It was really offensive for her to say something like that. My mom and grandfather and boyfriend were in the room too, which made it even more humiliating. I didn't know what to say, I was in shock. My boyfriend led her out of the room, so the visit ended right then and there. I haven't seen or spoken to her since, and she hasn't seen her grand child either. I'm still working on an awesome comeback speech, I'm open to suggestions!

I'd punch the bitch
Best of all, she can blame anything she does on post-pregnancy hormones and the resulting emotional rollercoaster. Doesn't really excuse hitting someone (although the MIL's attitude does...), but, hey! If anyone is unrealistic enough to expect her to be magically skinny after growing and having a baby, they obviously know jack shit about how it works. So I say go for it ;)
Just because you just had a baby doesn't mean it's an excuse. If you're fat, you're fat.
Obviously you don't have a wife/girlfriend or child. After you give birth your uterus is still the same size, as it grows A LOT when you are carrying a child. It takes aprox 6 weeks to shrink back to it's normal size. SO you still look pregnant after you give birth, minus the baby 5-10 lb baby.
Looks like we found a miserable person who enjoys other people's misery as well.
And if you've had a baby you are SUPPOSED to be fat. Partly just actual stretching and growing and not yet shrunk back up, and partly because we're FEEDING A BABY. That's what the fat is for. It's there so that if we can't get enough food, we can still keep ourselves and the baby going. Only a dumbass would call someone "fat" post-pregnancy. It would be like making fun of a weight lifter for putting on muscles. That's kind of WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN.
You can lose the weight. She can't just stop being a bitch. The nerves of some people man.
Even if you hadn't just given birth, I don't think that is really an appropriate thing to say to your daughter-in-law
Congrats to you, and the congrats to the in-law for being the most inconsiderate person I've ever heard of.
that doesn't even rhyme with sorry
If my (currently non existent) wife/ girlfriend told me that my mom or dad said that, I would definitely have to have a conversation with them.
Tell her "I just lost [baby's weight]" in the past 40 hours, how about you loose the attitude?"
Gosh that really sucks..I'm sorry!
What a bitch

That's a little insensitive to you. Should have told her, " I just had a kid, what's your excuse ?".
I suggest just flat out ignore her. You don't need your child growing up around people like that. She will realize sooner or later that you control when she sees her grandchild and she'll regret being so nasty to you. Congrats on the baby though!
