For patients with certain health conditions like hypertension, diabetes, osteoporosis or cardiac problems, the dentist may have to take certain precautions before performing any treatments. With hypertension, the patient could have excessive bleeding. Some people are terrified of the dentist and that can could cause their pressure to rise even more, which could lead to a stroke. I'll admit, I've never had a dentist check mine, and going by the comments, neither have most of you, but there are valid reasons for a dentist to know about your health condition.
I don't blame him for questioning. Dentists never take blood pressure.
Clearly from the other comments they actually do on occasion. I am going to guess the dentist had a reason for checking OP's blood pressure, like using a medication that could have adverse effects on a patient with high pressure.
Sorry OP, I'm with your boyfriend on this one!
High blood pressure pushed even higher by stress can make someone's heart or vessels pop. Common sense.
exactly why would your dentist take your blood pressure??? they don't normally do that, do they?
I have never heard of a dentist taking blood pressure ever Cut down on the salt OP or it could be family related
ill worry when dentists start issuing mammograms
Sorry OP, I thought the same thing. I wouldn't be too worried yet though. My blood pressure is always extremely high (like how are you still sitting here high) at the doctors office, but below average at home. There's a name for it, I think it's fairly common. There are lots of easy lifestyle changes you can make though. Even if you don't have high bp they'd benefit your health.

To be fair, its never happened to me or anyone I know, so I can relate to his shock.
Well I've never heard of a dentist who takes people's blood pressure either.
