Today, I was texting my mother after my boyfriend broke off our relationship. She offered incredibly supportive replies such as "No, really?" and "Aww, that sucks." before apparently getting bored and claiming she had to go because her "text reception" was breaking up. FML

Today, I got a phone call from my mother asking me if I was okay. Confused, I asked her what she meant. She then told me that my boyfriend had broken up with me, and she just wanted to make sure I was handling it alright. I had to find out my relationship was over from my mom. FML

That is completely unhelpful, encouraging this poor girl to think the ex cares for her is like telling someone whose car battery is dead,"try to turn it over again, I'm sure it will work this time" - it messes up the ignition and makes matters worse...

Mom was using reverse psychology. As a result you would make a point of not thinking about him by keeping your mind occupied with other things thus minimizing the pain of the beak-up.
