Today, I told my parents I wanted them to meet my new partner. My mom went into a rant about how she had known I was gay for a while and asked how I was going to tell my husband. I am straight, madly in love with my husband, and was referring to my business partner. FML

Okay, (it's OP) I need to make a couple of clarifications. I didn't include this part because there wasn't enough room in the FML submit thing, but after I told my mom I was referring to my business partner, she told me that she thinks I'm a lesbian not because of her fantastic maternal intuition, but because she thinks my husband is too much of an "ass bitch" for me to actually love him, and because I'm athletic. I wanted her to meet my business partner because my parents are involved in my business

oh how awkward!! i'm in a similar situation...my mum is waiting for me to come out of the closet and she keeps hinting at it aha

lol, it's funny, but just explain to your mother what you meant.

not an FYL if you just told your parents AFTER your moms rant.

haha guess your mom isn't the brightest crayon in the box...

I think the key point many of you are missing is "for a while."

parents always know, there must be a reason

You should have explained it better. #16 no they don't. if parents always knew what was going on with their children. we'd have a lot less pregnant teenagers in the world.

Your mom has sex on the brain. FYL.

I can see the reverse FML a mile away. "Today my daughter wanted to introduce her partner, and I went off and ranted about my long held suspicions that she was a lesbian. Then, after all that, she said "business partner, mom". She already had a happy heterosexual relationship. Now my daughter thinks I'm a homophobe. FML"

#8, and 9ish - how is her mother being homoPHOBIC? Thinking someone you know is secretly gay is miles different from hating gays...

These FMLs could easily end if people used the right details. It's like the airplane one where the lady said, "I think I'm overweight" and was told about discounts for obese people. She meant to say it she had an overweight bag. People take the time to understand the words coming out of your mouth. I'd think the same thing nowadays with all the PC bullshit about life partners and such. Partner in that kind of setting would make me think a significant other. On a side note though, why are you introducing your parents to business associates without your husband present? Just seems a little on the weird side to me anyways for that kind of conversation/meeting to occur.
