Today, I told my parents I wanted to try modelling. I decided that since I have such a low self-esteem, that it might benefit me, and make me feel better about myself and how I look. The first thing out of my dad's mouth was, "What? Why? You're ugly." Thanks dad. FML

if you have a low self-esteem, modeling is just about the worst thing to do. the industry is brutal and harsh. just like your father, apparently. but hey, he saved you some time.

Wow... I wouldn't know what to say to him. I probably would have kicked him in the balls and blamed him for my being ugly. Well, if you're really ugly at least you know not to try... And if you're not, just go for it. You might have something to throw back in your dad's face.

If you have low self esteem, modeling is a very poor choice of a career.

Agree with #99. If you went into modeling, you'd be hearing much worse than that, and constantly. He did you a favor. (In a jerk way.)

modeling is a cut throat business it is not for someone with low self esteem. you are judged everyday.

Let me get this straight. You are insecure about your appearance and you have low self-esteem. And you thought modeling was a GOOD idea? Wow.

YDI for thinking that modeling would HELP your self esteem issues.

So, you want to avert a life of low esteem by engaging yourself in a lifestyle where you expect people to evaluate you solely on the basis the purely physical aspects of your character (and not even that of any inherent talent) and nothing more? Wow. Shallow is as shallow does. Good luck with that — you're gonna need it. *eyeroll*

I know, right? Seriously... why would you try and boost self-esteem by modeling, where people only tell you how flawed you are?

don't worry it's not you fault it's your dad's fault for having bad sperm cells . Blame him

why would you ever think that modeling would help your self esteem??? so you know anything at all about the modeling industry? you're being paid for how you look so you need to look a very specific way for what the employer wants and they will have no problem telling you exactly what is "wrong" with you. you compete with millions of other people who think they want to be models and they all think that they are better than you. your dad was mean but that was a terribly stupid idea to begin with.

#115, exactly what I was thinking. Modeling will not help your self esteem at all.
