You finish doing this huge thing right and you decide to just leave it there, not saved, not backed up, nothing! wow, honestly, if you were working on a paper for DAYS without shutting down your computer (and before doing so saving your work) then your mom is right, you're wasting energy YDI you should've saved it....

You do realize the power could have blinked out for just a second, the computer could have randomly shut down (in particular if you are on vista), the computer could have frozen up because of background applications, etc and you still would have lost your work. YDI because no one who is intelligent enough to be in school would type up an essay without periodically saving it while they are typing it If it was in word, open word, and select document recovery.
