Today, I tried for 45 minutes to convince my psychiatrist to take me off my antidepressant. When he finally agreed to do so, I broke down into tears and sobbed uncontrollably for 10 minutes. Hello, increased prescription. FML

Well..you need it, you'll get off of it soon enough, don't worry OP.

There's nothing wrong with needing a little medication!!

You do realize that you have a right to not take meds. your doctor prescribes you, right?

31: Just because the OP has the right doesn't mean exercising that right isn't a stupid idea.

Were they tears of joy? If not you probably need the happy pills dude

People can have real issues after taking antidepressants. They can stop your natural "happy" hormone from working by itself, which is why many people end up on them for life. I guess by not letting you come of them he's trying to do the right thing but it's a tricky situation for any doc.

I'm gonna guess that unless you were so happy that you cried, you probably need the meds, and there is no shame in that...:)

By the looks of it, they'll do more good than harm :) they're only to help

******* pill mills. Honestly, if you dont think you need the meds or the meds are making things worse for you, get off them. Many doctors get rewarded with cash commissions and pharmaceutical dinners under the tables for pushing certain meds, and that might be whats going on in you're case. My dad is a high up at a psychiatric center in FL and tells me about it all the time. Don't go cold turkey if you decide to go off them, try to weave off. -EDIT- Anti-depressants are bullshit anyway, in my opinion.

Americans are so goddamn drugged up it's not even funny. Quit whining.

Go back to your igloo and shut up.

66- You're making Americans look ignorant. We know Canadians don't ride moose to school and live in igloos.

I can see how you'd think that 66, what with your bullshit education system not teachin yawl good learnin, nd ur helthcare sistem bean all shyt nd e'ryone h8tin y'all but iz kool.

OP, if you want to stop taking meds, stop. No one should be forcing you to take pills unless court-ordered or something. And they are obviously not working for you if you burst into tears over taking them. : /

Except it's extremely irresponsible (and possibly even dangerous) to suddenly stop taking a prescribed medication (especially one that has such serious chemical altering affects as Antidepressants) without the advice or help of a trained physician. OP, if you want to stop taking your Antidepressants, then try speaking to your psychiatrist about alternate options you can take to boost your mood instead of the pills. Ask them to let you test out a lower dosage for a few weeks and see how it affects your mood. And make a list of things that make you happy (even if it's something small and silly like "walking in the park" or "watching Grey's Anatomy") and try doing at least one of those things a day.

I'm sorry you're depressed, OP. But if your psychiatrist had to be CONVINCED to take you off your meds, you obviously still need them. You won't be on them forever.
