Today, I tried for 45 minutes to convince my psychiatrist to take me off my antidepressant. When he finally agreed to do so, I broke down into tears and sobbed uncontrollably for 10 minutes. Hello, increased prescription. FML

Well..you need it, you'll get off of it soon enough, don't worry OP.

There's nothing wrong with needing a little medication!!

Antidepressants can be rough-- and I know that convincing your therapist (and/or parents) to let you go off of a medication can be pretty rough too. I was put on various antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds throughout my teen years, and it was near impossible to convince my parents and therapist to let me quit taking them. Years later, my mom tried being on anti-anxiety meds. She was on them for a day before she felt "weird" and gave up, then had the guts to say that she knew exactly how I felt. Hah.

The anti-anxiety meds usually take weeks to see any effects.. One day is probably psychological

No, anti-anxiety meds (benzos) take up to an hour. SSRIs and the like, are different.

Ever considdered that you might need it? :/ Trust your psychiatrist, maybe he's right?

#57 But OP could try taking a different medication. Some antidepressants just don't work for some people, as everyone has a different body chemistry. Also, some antidepressants can have the opposite effect than what is intended. For example, Prozac can cause some people (usually teenagers) to become more depressed and have suicidal thoughts when previously they had never had suicidal thoughts. Scary stuff.

This is actually really sad...

You are fine just the way you are. I need an antidepressant too:)

Maybe you should have asked for a *different* antidepressant, rather than to be taken *off* it. Different people, different circumstances and different severities can work better with different antidepressants.

you feel kind of pathetic when you have to take durgs to be happy. and was it happy crying of sad crying

If you want to be off medication they are oblied to obey, unless it's an antipsycotic that if you aren't on you'll kill someone or yourself. The best way (I know because I had to do this with my pain meds) is to decrease it by half every few weeks when you feel it's safe, til eventually you are 100% off. Going cold turkey is not a good idea with these kinds of medicine because it usually causes major side effects of depression which makes you think you need to go back on. Talk to him again and demand he half the dose of your first medication to see how your body reacts.

He can't force you to buy it or take it.

**** prescription meds, just smoke a doobie and get rid of those mood swings

if smoking wasnt so bad for your lungs, weed would be the perfect medicine.

I agree weed is great. Use a vaporizer if yur worried bout yur lungs

Medical marijuana is far healthier than SSRI- based antidepressants, that much is true. Big pharma doesn't like telling people that, so expect a few thumbs down because if the earlier comments indicate anything, people actually believe them.
