Today, I tried for 45 minutes to convince my psychiatrist to take me off my antidepressant. When he finally agreed to do so, I broke down into tears and sobbed uncontrollably for 10 minutes. Hello, increased prescription. FML

Well..you need it, you'll get off of it soon enough, don't worry OP.

There's nothing wrong with needing a little medication!!

Try taking 5-htp instead. It's the "natural alternative" to Prozac! That other shit can screw you up! Good luck!

That stuff has some bad side effects too. If you want a fully chemical-free, not manufactured in a lab antidepressant, use St. John's Wort. It's AMAZING.

St John's Wort has side effects and interacts with birth control and other medications...

There's never a problem with getting help. No shame.

They are giving it to you because you need it. It will only help you.

Get rid of the psychiatrist they cause and create more problems than they ever solve. You can renew prescriptions or get them from your regular GP. Or else go see a psychologist who does cognitive therapy.

This is idiotic advice. Psychiatrists are physicians who treat illnesses. Yet you're advising OP to either self-medicate or go to her primary doctor, who isn't formally trained in psychiatry, to get drugs that he has no business prescribing?

Your the idiot I know how they work I work with them, it's from dickwad thinking like yours that empowers them.....

*You're a ******* dumbass. Ignore the troll, Doc.

No, what empowers them is people with problems who need and get help from them, as well as medical science which has developed these drugs behind reams of hard data and facts. Or do you know more than medical science does? If so, please impart your wisdom.

I never correct people, but how can anyone take you seriously about your comment or response when you sound like an ignorant punk? Just because you schedule appointments or whatever job you do for these doctors doesn't qualify you to advise people on their medical health.

Just keep thinking and try to get past your medical biases. You cannot treat the mind like you treat the body. Aside from how the medication works on a cellular level there no science at all after that. Treatment is based on inference. How would you like to be prescribed a strong psychotropic medication biased on an inference from something like psychotherapy ?

You are stupid beyond understanding. You're telling a DOCTOR to get an education? Who the **** do you think you are? You're probably some teenage prick that hates the medical system. We all know who the expert and the village idiot is here. The fact that you don't shows how foolish you really are. Grow the **** up.

"Aside from how the medication works Ina cellular level..." Uh...right. So we know exactly what they do at a cellular level, and studies show efficacy thereafter. So what exactly is the controversy? No no, please continue showing me the way. I'm getting educated.

Noisebox, you're a Scientologist, aren't you? If not, you should become one. You sound just enough shades of ****** up for it.

Maybe a regular doc's opinion? Extreme mood swings like that could be hormonal and not mental, you might just need a different prescription.

Typically a psychiatrist will check for this through a bunch of boring questions about symptoms and blood tests if the GP hasn't already.

TheDrifter 23

True, but they don't always look if they think it's something else. Also an imbalance can result from medication, leading to a treatment becoming ineffective, as op's breakdown shows hers has.

Hey! At least it'll make you feel good!

You have the autonomy to stop taking them yourself if you want. But do it sensibly with the doctors' advice on how. Crying with happiness is not a symptom of depression! You're allowed to feel happy & you're allowed to feel sad. You know the different between depression & being sad. Being sad is human, even having a little breakdown is, but you know how depression is different. So go with what symptoms you're experiencing. ~from a medic who is also on antideps!

You realise that you are under no obligation to actually take the pills right?

Haha guess I pretty much restated your comment. Whoops! Typing on a phone is slower than typing on a computer.
