Today, I've been struggling with my English paper for the past hour, because I can't concentrate. This is because my mom is in the room next to me, singing to her pet rat about what a cute little boy he is, in between yelling at him to stop "molesting" her. FML

Some people can only concentrate in silence though so music doesn't help. It might work for OP but there are some people that just have to have complete silence.

They aren't studying. They are writing a paper. And that is most efficient on a computer. A lot of families only have one computer that is usually a desktop and not too mobile so this isn't a solution.

Try to put headphones in and listen to calm music. If that doesn't work just ask her to be quieter, most parents want their kids to do well in school.
