Today, I've reached the point in my life where the "Apply to affected area" label on acne cream essentially means I need to take a bath in the stuff. FML

OP here, I made an account to reply. To clarify a bit, I'm 19, so I've been dealing with acne for a while and have my face pretty well under control. I said I need to take a bath in acne cream because it's mostly my shoulders and back, and no amount of washing and scrubbing seems to help. Thanks for the funny comments and advice :)

Are you a teenager? If so that's completely normal so I wouldn't worry about it

Its a stage in life. It will be over soon.

If it's as severe as you are making it sound, seeing a dermatologist would be a good place to start. Sometimes it's a health issue and not just typical hormonal acne. Good luck!

Don't worry about shoulder and back acne. It's impossible to get rid of unless you are some form of acne magician!

The most effective natural way that I know is sunshine and swimming in the sea. You can also try roaccutane I used that and it works pretty good. Be sure to getter info before you try it there are a lot of possible side effects.

I also have the same issue. Its to the point my doctor actually prescribed me a pill to take each night that is supposed to help.

I used to have pretty severe acne also. Sometimes to dry them up I'd put a little rubbing alcohol on the areas with acne and within a couple days it'd be significantly better. However, acne is also caused from irritation so maybe you might want to change creams, or get something more soothing. If none of that works seeing a dermatologist might be best. :)

I actually found that I had a sensitivity to scented products, changing over to unscented body wash and detergent really helped mine.

When I had back acne in college, I used a back scrubber to apply Clearasil, and that cleared it up in about a week. See if that works. :) Now that I think about it, I was exactly your age when it happened.

Get Accutane from your doctor that stuff is magic. My brother had the worst acne ever and it cleared it pretty fast. Good luck!

#30, Accutane is horrible for your skin. I would advise just washing daily, and maintaining your acne than using that stuff. There's a large percentage who experience (sometimes permanent) damage from using Accutane.

Those acne might be because of dandruff.. Make sure your hair is clean.. Eventually the acne will go

OP I heard Fuller's earth is great for acne and very cheap.

Talk to your dermatologist about tretinoin cream. I've heard it works wonders, even on bacne. I just started it about two months ago, so I cannot personally state how much it works, but I've heard many positive things, so it's worth a call to your doctor. :-)

I feel you, OP. I've had acne literally half my life, and it only started clearing up when I was about 18.

It could be something irritating your skin. Try a different laundry detergent/body wash.

I took that too, 5 months later my face is clean as a whistle, acutane right?

Try pan-oxyl soap. It's acne medicine, but a bar of soap. Works wonders for me.

Accutane is banned in the U.S. :( I clean my acne with astringent every night and that helps a lot. You can use witch hazel if your skin gets too dry from that though.

It really is, good for most types of skin too and cheap, I love it.

Try getting a blackhead extraction.

If you have a face wash that works, you can use that on your back/shoulders too. Also, make sure to drink a lot of water and try to avoid milk, sodas and alcohol (basically and drink that isn't pure water). My pimples flare up IMMEDIATELY if I don't get enough water. Another thing to use is a honey mask. Just regular honey, apply to area, wait about 15-30 min and then rinse off in the shower. Honey is anti bacterial and hydrating. Salt spray also works for drying out pimples. Not the kind for your hair though, just salt and water mixed. Oh, and if you have long hair that reaches those places, be very careful what you put in your hair. Hairspray or mousse can easily rub off on the skin and cause pimples.

I used to have issue with acne on my shoulders and back, I found that washing/conditioning my hair first then washing my body second helped a ton. Also, using a loofah sponge to apply body wash, instead of using a bar of soap, helps because it gets rid of more dead skin and helps clean out my pores. Good luck OP!

Ok I'm pretty sure I have the wrong medicine lol. My brother took Accutane back in 2007, it got banned in 2009. My mom told me that's what he took but she could be wrong and she doesn't think the one he took got banned. Another suggestion is Epiduo, I use it and it's great

Try baby powder it is actually effective and it doesn't make your skin really dry

Accutane isn't banned from the U.S. Unless me and my dermatologist are pulling off a nice drug deal with the help of the friendly cvs pharmacy techs. It's some harsh stuff, it's almost a last resort thing when other treatments like antibiotics and retin a aren't effective.

This might sound weird, but acne can be caused by over washing the skin. The skin has a "horny" layer that protects the skin and soap washes it away and exposes the skin to bacteria that can cause acne. Maybe try backing off the over washing and use a milder soap?

Another thing to try is washing your bed sheets and pillow case a couple times a week. I also agree about drinking lots of water and avoiding soda and alcohol. Good luck.

I use a tea tree oil body wash from the body shop once or twice a week which keeps anything I get under control and helps prevent them. I also use dove body wash for sensitive skin because I'm allergic to strong perfumes and will get hives if I'm not careful about what I use. Also exfoliation is key. Get a good back scrubber. I love my bamboo one from the body shop.

Try using 3X concentrated Neam Leaf oil. It usually takes about a week but it's completely natural and it's always worked for me.

Acne is a medical condition and it doesn't matter how much you scrub or clean because the problem isn't you being dirty. Go to a doctor and get medicine. Nothing else will really help.

confidence is key, dont worry about it

You might want to consider either baking soda scrubs or a surgery prep solution, which you can get over the counter. I know I tried both. The baking soda (mix with water to a paste, scrub) tries to prevent more and the surgery prep kills an ongoing infection. I've used it on boils.

I hate when people who don't have acne say "just wash your face"... It's not that simple

right I've had it 14 years now it's not easy at all !

It can be that simple, though this is not the case for everyone. Healing begins from the inside out. Acne can be your body's way of ridding itself of toxins, not just a piece of dirt in a pore that got infected.

The Body clear body wash & the body clear body spray work great ;))

This reminds me of the episode of South Park where Cartman takes a bath in lotion because he has chickenpox

I assume this means you're a teenager. For me its not all hormones that cause it. Try to clean your bed sheets more, especially your pillowcases. Eating healthier especially helps me. Limiting drinks to water and white milk, avoiding chocolate, fried food, and dessert does wonders.

I had really bad acne & ppl used to tell me not to eat junk food. I thought that was ridiculous advice because if junk food caused bad skin nearly all fat ppl would have bad skin, which they don't. Mine went away at 28 when I quit eggs & dairy, both of which I'm intolerant too (my doctor suggested a test). Don't blame the person they may be doing everything they can & eat healthy.

I didn't blame the person. I said it could be hormones or lifestyle and noted things that help me, just as you did. Junk food also affects adolescents differently than adults so my "ridiculous advice" from personal experience is not as ridiculous and narrow as your logic.

You, me, and every other teenager out there.

Even if you're a teenager, that is very excessive and is caused but what you're eating. Eat whole foods, low fat (especially animal fat and oil), and lots of raw and water, and it will clear up naturally!
