Today, I walked into an exam after having stayed up 20 straight hours studying. The professor looked at me and muttered, "Don't bother, I'm failing you either way." FML

Find a way to report it, don't let him fail you!

Wow that's a great vote of confidence! Geez what an asshole

I would go to the dean and tell them about it. School is expensive and you don't need a jerk like that messing up your GPA or your confidence.

Why would he be failing you either way? Report it to someone

What an asshole. Make him give you your paper back and then have the Dean or President of the university meet with both of you to prove your innocence.

Not necessarily. OP never said whether he took it or not. If it was me having stayed up to study for that long, I would have taken the test anyways after that comment from the professor so as not to have completely wasted my time. If he did take it, he has evidence.

We need the both sides to this story. For example in my university, if you fail to submit a project or fail to attend labs without valid excuses, the department can fail you for the term, regardless of your final grade. I feel OP's pain studying 20+ hours And straight to exams, it happened to us every term for the 5 years. When exams are spaced 1 day apart, and 6 in a row, we didn't have much choices. Btw I'm talking about engineering programs, not sure about others.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and state that OP probably didn't forget to turn something in. I say that because why would you study for 20+ hours for a test knowing you didn't turn in an important assignment meaning you're doomed to fail anyway. I get what everyone is saying but I just don't think anyone would study that hard knowing they were going to fail anyway!

Only people who don't constantly study all semester need to cram. So I'm going to say that OP is being irresponsible by studying for 20 hours straight. It seems likely they forgot to hand something in and are trying to make up for it.

I would study for 20 hours even if I had been studying all semester. That's my personality, plus I forget things after a while. Plus some people remember things better through cramming. Not everyone is the same, so it's unfair to make assumptions.

We don't know that the teacher is just being an asshole. Perhaps OP scored too low on the classwork/assignments to be able to pass the class.

Studying like that is a desperation move. The prof may not have been nice, but it's likely he was speaking the truth.

There is no purpose to this reply other to say that I love your profile picture.

If you have failed every test so far that getting a perfect score on the test would not pull your grade up to a passing score then he was right. However he is pretty much a jerk so say it when he did and the way that he did. All this based only on your version of the story. BUT if he has a personal grudge against you and you feel you passed the test then take it to the Dean of Men and let him sort it out. I would not be optimistic as I'm sure the professor has his butt covered and can demonstrate his reasons for why you failed his class.
