I don`t get what you`re complaining about.. since it`ll be -40 here in canada and I still go to school, plus, if the school does close, any day that it looks like it might, i`ll call the school closure line. SOOO there`s nothing "FML" about this at all. WOW I just made an account to rant about something dumb. thanks. (:
Actually, in -40 weather in Canada they do shut down schools.. but anything really below -35 they're open.
In Ireland they don’t broadcast that on the news it would b impractical considering we only have one morning news for the entire Ireland! Oh and op u didn’t deserve that...some people :)
we do but we get them kinda late! most schools are only closing the day before Christmas eve D=
in ireland christmas holidays stasrt on the 23rd, yeah i no! sucks!
oh god i know. i woke up this morning and said '**** it, i'm staying in bed.' my school had to close because it was snowing so heavily out. at least we might have a white christmas here in ireland.
It's crazy how little snow it takes to shut down places out there. I was in England and they are the same. Here, when I went to high-school I still had to walk with snow up to my butt sometimes and with a windchill making it like -45 outside. They don't cancel until it's at least -50 here. Without windchill lol.
In England's defence, we're used to warmer weather than that. However, not all schools close in the face of a little snow. The last snow day I had was fifteen years ago when it was up to my middle, which I guess was knee high for everyone else (I was only 5 at the time). Even this last term gone, where it was -10/-15 on a few days we were still expected to make it into Uni. I know that's nothing compared to Canada, but that's quite extreme for England. As other people have stated it's all about how prepared places are for it. Canada regularly has very cold winters, so they're prepared for it each year. Most places are only prepared to deal with expected/normal temperatures for a time of year. But ankle deep snow isn't that much, I'll grant you, if it had been ice for the OP's entire journey, then they might have something to complain about.
You do have a point in saying that you're prepared for English winters. However, I was in Southern England, where they don't get much snow anyways (Amesbury, Wiltshire). I went there in February this year, landed in Heathrow and there was grass on the ground. It was a shock lol. I was actually able to walk around in a T-shirt some days. Anyways, I may be wrong in saying this, but from what I've learned years back, (Beware of an oncoming FUNFACT!!) England used to have a nicer climate, but then went through a climate change with a type of ice age a couple hundred years ago. This may be presumptuous to say but I think they're doing well with their adaptation to their environment given the circumstances. What with the plague and everything, they've not had it easy. So I suppose their allowed to be upset about the weather lol. Plus, Canada is kind of an extreme to compare the rest of the world to. I am from Winnipeg so clearly I'm not gonna have anything nice to say about -5 degrees and complaining about it. Nor will I have a proper perspective on "normal" weather for the rest of the world. I will be honest and say that if I were to be standing outside in -5 degree weather for an extended period of time in my aforementioned T-shirt, it would get cold for me too. Oh, and I don't know why we prairie dwellers brag about how bad we have it in the winter. I guess it's just in our DNA, cause it's not like any of us actually enjoy it. Anyways, I guess the point of the FML is that the person had to walk in the cold that they are adapted to consider being cold, without being told that school was canceled. I would be pretty pissed of too lol. so yeah, FYL OP.
Tbf it seems to take less than an inch of snow to stop London, whereas we can get a foot and carry on as normal up in the North (I might be being biased, hence why I used the word 'seems'). And yeah, I'm not saying the OP should be loving -5^C, but that it's not that bad. Not unless they've omitted a really long distance walked or the fact that it was ice most of the way rather than snow. Because around that area, that sounds like the nicer end of the conditions. Not to mention they could've taken it upon themselves to check whether or not school was open. And English people love to complain about the weather, that's sort of a norm.
I hope you're talking about -5C, because it would definitely suck even more if you weren't

Hahaha -5? wow you would not survive in Canada. It was -40°C a couple weeks ago
All the way up to your ankles? GASP! Maybe if you walked to school on your hands that would be impressive, but otherwise, you should omit that detail.
