Today, I wanted to punish a student for being late. I decided to start a pop quiz before he arrived. I was positive there wasn't enough time for him to finish. He scored full marks and I couldn't say a word. FML

You and teachers like you are the reason why kids hate school. I bet because of you several kids have dropped out and now they wont get a full education. I thought teachers wanted to make the world a better place?

If he scored full marks (and I suppose that wasn't the first time), it means he's a good student. Isn't *that* what you should care about? You should be flattered that he likes whatever you are teaching. Who cares if he's a bit late? Some people find it difficult to estimate the time. So what, as long as he's a great student? Only an insecure teacher would take offense at that and attempt to punish the student that harshly.

Go die in a fire you godamn nazi.

i hate teachers like u who r totally unfair!!! die and go 2 hell...there r reasons why this is not a good FML: 1.) How is ur life f***ed?... the kid just lucked out... 2.) every1 is late from time 2 time... show some simpathy asshole YDI...and go 2 hell

I think telling the OP to go to hell is a little extreme. Also, it's spelt 'sympathy'. Also, how do you know the kid wasn't repeatedly late and the OP had had enough? It's also possible the kid did that well on the test because he was smart not because he got lucky.

Wow, I've never seen so many people overreact to such a trivial situation like this. I'm also amused at how you all are twisting what happened to make this student look like some hero/martyr and the OP like Satan Incarnate. First, it seems that a lot of people think that the OP gave the pop quiz in order to punish the rest of the class for this one student's lateness. Did it ever occur to any of you, that the OP was already planning to give the class a pop quiz, and simply decided not to wait for the student? The OP does have that discretion. Second, if this student had a good reason for being late, shouldn't the school, if not the OP himself, have been notified by his parents? At the end of the day, this student was dicking around and obviously couldn't have been bothered with getting to class on time. Unfortunately for the OP, he tried to make an example of this student, and it backfired. Here's a little perspective: If this had happened in the West Indies, the student would've been the one writing this FML, and it'd go a little something like this: "Today, I was late for class. Since I didn't have a good reason for being late, my teacher decided to beat me in front of my classmates. I hope my teacher doesn't tell my parents. If he does, I'll get another beating when I get home. FML."

But 305 since NONE of us know the full story, we must go by what the FML indicates. And the OP himself indicates that he gave the pop quiz for the purpose of hoping the student would not be able to complete it, and wind up with a failing grade as "punishment" for being late(which the reason of is never mentioned).

But angrynegro did hit upon the point that the OP only states that he started the Pop Quiz early, which implies it might have already been scheduled. Though I agree with the rest of your comment, we just don't have enough information to judge, or at least not to the extent that some have done, which I think was a point angrynegro was trying to make at the beginning of his post.
