Today, I was at a goodbye dinner with friends before I move back to America. A friend called to cry over relationship problems she refuses to fix. While I was outside trying to politely get off the phone, my friends ate and drank everything I'd ordered and closed the bill. FML

Be glad you are moving if those are the kind of people you will be leaving behind!

Well, this could go either way. It's only an FML if you go back and still have to pay. If not, grab a pizza and you'll be fine.

fake friends can cause more damage than your enemies

Doesn't "closed the bill" mean they paid for you? If you were gone a long time they probably thought you stuck them with the bill, so they paid it.

Great example of the stuff we miss out on in our own lives when trying to help someone who won't help themselves.

That's is so true. This is really random and a bit irrelevant...but one of my old housemates was a girl who had all sorts of relationship and mental problems that she refused to try to fix or help. Me and my other housemates spent months trying to cheer her up and help her forget about it, but in doing so, we missed out on so many things during our second year of university. It made me realize that we're only on this planet for a short time...so what's the point in helping people who won't help themselves, when you could be helping yourself have a good life instead?

And this is why we don't pick up calls when we are out with people. You made the first faux pas, your friends just topped it.

One time, I answered my phone at Taco Bell while eating lunch with a friend. I was then berated by an older man eating lunch with his wife. He claimed that "Youth has no ******* respect for people these days. It pisses me off when a person answers their G-damned cell phone at lunch. They should be taught a ******* lesson." This happened after I and my mortified friend sitting next to his booth were obligated to listen to his conversation with his wife about his detailed sex life and new positions wearing him out. My parents were calling me about school information. Some things are worse than a phone call at dinner/lunch. Yuck.

#30, cool story, bro. I heard this story starting like, "One time, at band camp,. . ."
